A Message about Stigma

Harford County Council President Vincenti Statement on Recovery

A community is only as strong as its most vulnerable members. We are very fortunate in Harford County to have so many organizations and individuals that support and advocate for our recovery community.

Unfortunately, addiction knows no boundaries….each of us know friends, family and associates that have been impacted by this disease. Through programming centered on individual health, rebuilding relationships, education and community engagement, the mission of non-profits like the Homecoming Project truly transform and lift up those who are struggling with addiction.

Stigma associated with recovery continues to be a barrier for those in need of recovery services and creates hurdles for those who are seeking or are already in recovery.

Personally, in my capacity as Council President I have been afforded the opportunity to visit several…if not all of these amazing organizations. I have been blessed to have been able to spend time with individuals in recovery and have seen them come from their lowest point….to their highest point…becoming a trusted and valued partner in our community.

From the bottom of my heart….I want to thank each of you for the great work that you do to help end the stigma surrounding recovery and ultimately strengthen our communities.

Patrick Vincenti
